Waco, Texas (KWTX) – Central Texas Girl Scouts are once again selling cookies throughout the region, and Waco Girl Scout Troops are partnering with local coffee shop Dichotomy to create cookie-inspired lattes .
Waco Girl Scout and Robinson High School sophomore Jaylynn Merrell is no cookie-selling newcomer. He has been a Girl Scout since kindergarten.
Merrell said the organization has helped her become who she is.
“It taught me a lot of decision-making skills,” she said. “It taught me a lot about business ethics. It really taught me what I wanted to be…it taught me that I wanted to do something on camera.”
During her Girl Scout days, Merrell participated in a program affiliated with Dichotomy, a Waco coffee shop.
A partnership with Dichotomy turns Girl Scout cookies into lattes.
“We partnered with the Girl Scouts to develop a drink that they thought tasted and represented cookies well,” said Maddy Ealy, a Dicotomy employee.
Lattes are inspired by different Girl Scouts each year. This year, Waco Girl Scouts chose a drink modeled after a peanut butter sandwich cookie called Peanut Butter Brew or PB Brew. Bisection offered a variety of syrups to match the cookies, and dipped the Girl Scout cookies in milk to create Cookie Milk.
“When we met with the Girl Scouts, we let them play with all the ingredients and taste different ratios of syrup to find out what they liked best,” Ealy said.
After reopening in February, Daiko Tomy plans to start offering lattes from February. Central Texas Girl Scouts receive a portion of the profits.
Girl Scouts profit in many ways by selling cookies in local stores. Proceeds will go to Scouts and the Central Texas Council to provide travel, campus and learning opportunities, Merrell said.
Central Texas Girl Scouts will be ready to sell to residents in the coming weeks. Find your nearest Girl Scout booth by entering your area code on this website.
One cookie that residents won’t find at their local booth is the new Raspberry Razzle cookie. Available online only.
Melissa Greene, a Central Texas Program Specialist, said, “Today, much of us are trying to teach our girls business ethics online, much like we shop online.” You can also buy from your local Girl Scouts and they will ship directly to your home.”
Girl Scouts will be selling Adventureful, Caramel Delight, Dosidos, Lemonade, Peanut Butter Patty, Thin Mint, Toast Yay, and Trefoil at local booths.
