Milwaukee — Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday that commemorates the King’s birthday and his legacy.
From Milwaukee to Eau Claire, several events are held throughout the day to honor the King.

2023 MLK Day at the Milwaukee Public Library
The Milwaukee Public Library hosts a daylong event with activities and performances from 9am to 5pm. The Martin Luther King Branch Library is located at 310 West Locust Street.

39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
The theme of the annual event is working towards a world of peace. Student winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech and Essay Contest will give speeches and read essays at the Marcus Performing Arts Center from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
It is open to the public for free.

Milwaukee Bucks Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Game
The Milwaukee Bucks will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Day when they host the Indiana Pacers at Fiserv Forum at 1:30 p.m.
The Bucks will host a non-profit fair in the upper concourse of the Fiserv Forum during Monday’s game. A variety of local nonprofits will be set up at tables outside Section 228 to share their mission with fans and provide information on future volunteer opportunities. Participating nonprofits include 100 Black Men of Milwaukee, African American Breastfeeding Network, Groundwork Milwaukee, Public Allies Wisconsin, Safe & Sound and WestCare Wisconsin.
At halftime, the Bucks will recognize the 18 winners of We Energies’ annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Speech Contest.

38th Annual City/County MLK Day Observance
The 38th Annual Madison Dane County MLK Day event will take place directly at the Overture Center for the Arts at the Capitol Theatre. Don Zary Abernathy, King’s granddaughter and daughter of her Reverend Ralph Abernathy, is this year’s keynote speaker. The program also includes the presentation of his MLK Humanitarian Award by Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway and county executive Joe Parisi, as well as performances by the MLK Community Choir.

42nd Annual Tribute and Ceremony
The oldest official festivities commemorating the King’s life return to the Houses of Parliament Rotunda at noon. The theme is “Let Justice Rule”. Dr. Laurie A. Carter, President of Lawrence University, will be the guest speaker and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra will perform. The event is free and open to the public.

What is your life blueprint? – 32nd Annual Fox Cities MLK Community Keynote
The 32nd annual gala in Appleton will feature community activist Henry Sanders as a keynote speaker. The event is sponsored by Lawrence University, United Way Fox Cities, Appleton Area School District, Boys and Girls Club of the Fox Valley, People of Progression, Covey and is available online only, Mondays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. In memory of Martin Luther King
The Pablo Center will partner with Uniting Bridges, UW-Eau Claire Department of History, and Converge Radio to host guest speakers and live music honoring King. A hybrid event with guest speakers from BJ Hollars and Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, and musical performances from Frank Watkins and Irie Sol.Doors open at 5pm, program starts at 6pm

2023 Celebration Wausau
The event runs from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM and features a short presentation by Judge Everett Mitchell, followed by dance performances and poetry readings by local talent.

29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Take back your dreams and make them come true’. The keynote speaker is Elizabeth Rosiles-Zavala, Director of Hispanic Student Programming at Gateway Technical College. The program will also feature a performance by the Mitchell Steppers of the Mitchell K-8 School in honor of her Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award recipient of this year. It will run from noon to 1pm and will also be live streamed.
