Caregiver arrested for murder of 4-year-old in Milwaukee
Milwaukee police are investigating a murder and child abuse case involving a 4-year-old girl near 23rd Street.

The young victim, identified as Kariya King by his family, was taken to a hospital for treatment and later died from his injuries, authorities said.
A Milwaukee woman and a 29-year-old Milwaukee man who were caring for the child were detained, police said. According to the family, the girl’s babysitter and her boyfriend were arrested.

Fees are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Kariya King’s mom said she was the sweetest and most loving person.On Monday night, her family gathered to remember her.
“Anyone who knew Kariya knew she was fun,” said Aunt Trisha King. “She was a happy child. She didn’t deserve it. She didn’t.”
My 4 year old will be 5 in January. She wanted a unicorn-themed birthday party for her, instead her family lit a candle in her memory Monday night.
“How can a monster hurt a four-year-old baby?” said the king.
Police said the abuse occurred at a nearby apartment on the 23rd and Friday evening.The girl died Sunday afternoon from her injuries.
“I miss her,” said King. “What happened shouldn’t have happened.”
A family member awaiting indictment said they remembered a girl who made a huge impact.
“But she left a legacy,” said grandmother Patricia King. “Everyone loves her. She will never be forgotten.”
