Award-winning producers Steve Ivey and Capricorn Mercer Music want to build the present and future of Macon’s music.
Macon, GA — Macon has a rich musical history. Capricorn’s Mercer Music wants to honor the past while building on Macon’s musical present.
They will host their first-ever music business summit in February.
Award-winning producer Steve Ivey is a Mercer University graduate who got his start in music at Macon.
“We are really excited to bring all of this to Macon and help grow Macon’s art,” said Ivey.
Ivey and several others will be speakers at the one-day conference.
The Summit will feature meetings with Grammy-winning songwriters, producers, managers and many other music industry luminaries.
The goal is to help Macon musicians advance their careers by honing their skills and learning from others.
Ivey has stated that he has worked with many people in the music industry. They each have their own creative process, but one thing they have in common is an exceptional work ethic.
“They have a crazy work ethic and know how to survive and thrive. And that’s the key factor that many young artists don’t understand. The buzz never stops, whether it’s Bruno Mars, and Garth Brooks,” said Ivy.
This summit helps creators at all levels of their careers learn something new from people who have been in the industry for a long time.
Ivey says these are people he has worked with frequently and aims to help artists grow their passions and careers.
Topics range from writing and recording for TV and film, to performance development, and useful tips for live sound techniques.
Ivey says the event is really about connecting the music community. As a creative, he says, it can be difficult to reach out to people who are trying to help you grow.
He and Capricorn’s Mercer Music want to fill this gap.
“The Music Business Summit is a great event where you don’t just hear how they do it, you get to meet people who actually do it and get their email addresses and give them their phone numbers. I’ve been working,” he said.
The Music Business Summit will be held on February 23rd from 9am to 7pm at Mercer Music in Capricorn. The event will conclude with a live performance and networking opportunity at Mercer Music at Capricorn’s Phil Walden Memorial Studio.
The registration fee is $79 and can be registered at the Mercer Music at Capricorn website.
