Cumbrian College students take home the Ontario College Marketing Competition trophy for the fifth year in a row.
Cumbrian College’s winning streak continues as students finish on the podium five years in a row at the annual Ontario College Marketing Competition (OCMC).
Held annually, OCMC is a student-focused learning experience that provides competitors with the ability to demonstrate essential, vocational, and employability skills before industry professionals.
This year’s competition was hosted by Toronto’s Seneca College last week and involved 12 public universities.
Meadow Merrill of the North Bay took first place in the job interview category. Merrill is in her sophomore year of business administration.
“This was such an amazing experience. The contest was really a real work experience and I learned a lot not only by competing but also by preparing for one of the best interviews of my life.” said Merrill.
“Being part of the Cambrian OCMC team has allowed me to connect with and learn from great teammates and faculty coaches, an experience I will never forget.”
The team of Troy Kirkwood from Sudbury and Brendan Lamothe from Timmins took third place in the market research category. Both are in his sophomore year of business administration.
“Training and competing at OCMC has definitely given us the skills to succeed in the workplace,” says Kirkwood. “Just the thought of giving a presentation in front of a panel of industry executives was incredibly intimidating. Words can’t describe how I felt when I walked out of the presentation room. I’m happy to win third place, but… That sense of accomplishment is the greatest victory.”
“OCMC was a life-changing experience. The best aspect is the connections you make along the way,” adds Brendan Lamott. “Training and competition are intensive courses of the life and workplace skills necessary to succeed in business.”
The team of Paige Lemaitre from Barrie and Emma Kilbride from Sudbury finished fifth in the Integrated Marketing Communications category. They are both in their third and final year of Business Administration – Marketing.
Marnie Staffen, one of Team Cambrian’s coaches and a professor of business administration, said: “We were competing with schools across the state and I’m proud of the entire team and the incredible achievements they’ve achieved once again on the state stage.”
