FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The Fargo City Commission has approved an amendment to the “Adult Recreational Facilities” ordinance.
Zoning codes define and govern where these types of businesses can operate. Some business owners aren’t happy with the city’s efforts to tighten regulations.
Kim Patterson, owner of Enchantasis in Fargo, says her business will be severely hampered now that the zoning ordinance is passed.
She says her business will be classified as an adult bookstore, which will have many ramifications.
Patterson said the ordinance will affect how ads are allowed and their ability to expand or move.
She also added that it has a lasting impact on which customers visit her establishment.
Patterson hopes the city will work with them to further clarify how her business can operate.
“Likewise, there’s not much to say about whether we’re grandparents or not. I don’t know if I should put up a sign that says you must be 18 or older to shop at my store.” she said..
Enchantasys attorney Mark Western said the ordinance is a clear sign that the city wants to classify all adult entertainment businesses as one.
“The city council just passed an ordinance that lumps places like Enchantasis into strip bars,” he said.
Enchantasys has been in business for nearly 20 years, with two locations in Fargo and four stores in the Midwest.
