CHRISNEY, Indiana (WEHT) — Hundreds of people gathered for lunch in Spencer County, where conversations about labor were the main menu item.
The tables at Spencer County Economic Development’s annual meeting in Chrisney on Friday were full. This year’s theme is “Workforce”.
Guests were invited to hear from some of the region’s top business leaders. Daniela Vidal, Chancellor of Ivy Tech, Matt Eckert, President and CEO of Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, and her Linda White of Deaconess Health System.
“A lot of it is in relationships with managers, leaders, supervisors, and subordinates,” says Linda White. “It’s about scheduling the workforce. Some people need 12-hour shifts. Some people need 10-hour shifts. We are also working to promote education through tuition reimbursement. I’m trying to pull everything out of my hat and do something unique, but it’s difficult.
Recruitment and retention was a big discussion during the conference. Vidal spoke about serving non-traditional students. Holiday World is looking to build housing to recruit employees internationally.
