Longview’s Sunbird Barbecue will soon be the first eat-in restaurant.
Brian Bingham and his wife Kimmy, David Segovia, are launching their mobile barbecue business in 2021 after previously working at Bodacious Bar-BQ on Moberly Avenue. Segovia’s wife, Kay, also helps Sunbird with his barbecue.
Bryan Bingham said:
This building was recently home to The Cace Kitchen, which has moved further into downtown Longview to 104 N. Green St.
“The trailer was great, but we’re pretty limited in what we can do,” said Bingham. Also, without the building, there would be no place for customers to sit and eat in bad weather.
Their barbecue pit is on the property, and they hope to add an outdoor dining area later, he said.
Community support for the business has been “overwhelming,” Bingham said.
“Without community support, we would be nowhere,” he said.
Sunbird’s food truck will continue to operate in the Hyundai of Longview (3680 US 259) for now, but Bingham said he hopes it will be open on the High Street in the coming weeks.
The restaurant’s hours will continue Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until sold out, but Bingham hopes to extend hours as the business grows.
The new El Sombrero location
El Sombrero opened Friday at its new location at 2005 Toler Road in West Longview.
Mike Kittner opened his first restaurant on McCann Road in the Brookwood Village shopping center 22 years ago. He previously operated stores in Hallsville and Kilgore, but he sold the Hallsville store. The Kilgore restaurant has been closed since his August fire, and Kitner plans to tear it down and rebuild it later.
He also has plans to open a second location in Longview.
The just-opened location in the former Catfish Village is almost double the size of the 9,200-square-foot McCann Road restaurant, with a drive-thru and larger bar.
Hours of operation are 11 AM-9 PM Monday-Wednesday and 11 AM-10 PM Thursday-Saturday.
Change of ownership
The Ritz Salon at 1901 Judson Road is under new owners.
Claudio Castro and Jeff Pugh purchased the salon in late 2022. The two learned that the salon was for sale while working at his institute.
Pugh works full-time at the salon, while Castro continues to work full-time at the Institute and works at the salon in the afternoons.
She is a hairdresser and Pugh is a barber, and also offers straight razor cuts and shaves.
“We have all kinds of hair,” Castro said.
Hours of operation are Tuesday-Thursday 9 AM-6 PM and 9 AM-5 PM. The salon accepts appointments and walk-ins. The time will likely be extended later, Castro said.
“I hope we can bring the best to Longview and continue to grow the business,” said Castro.
