Burundian President Ebariste Ndaisimie attended a meeting of the CNDD-FDD, the powerful and highly militarized political party that has been in power since 2005, on Sunday (January 22).
Speaking in Gitega, the country’s political capital, Ndaisimie warned against the country’s corrupt leaders who are struggling to survive in tough economic times.
“Until now, certain people claim to be government leaders and cadres, but they are only stealing from the state. This is a big problem for our party because we just have it. Be a good role model,” said President Ndaisimiye.
Ndayishimiye used the three-day summit to build support for the ruling party, especially at the grassroots level.
The ruling party will now have offices and governing bodies at the level of zones across the country.
He also called on trusted leaders to join the party.
“It is true that for a party to win, it needs to have many party members all over the country, but it must find good and honest leaders all over the country.
The ruling party also decided to carry out restructuring in the provinces. A new General Secretariat of Veterans Affairs will be established at the national level.
