BUFFALO, NY — Buffalo sports teams and businesses are stepping up to help the city of Buffalo after a blizzard.
The Buffalo Bills donated $300,000, along with the NFL and the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Part of the money will go to storm relief efforts, and the rest will help the community recover in the coming months.
The Buffalo Sabers Foundation will donate $50,000 to the relief effort, with $10,000 going to the Buffalo City Mission, Eight Days of Hope, FeedMore WNY, Friends of Night People, and Salvation Army Buffalo organizations.
M&T Bank announced Thursday that it will donate $200,000 to “charitable funds for the American Red Cross, FeedMore WNY, and the West New York Coalition for the Homeless.”
Delaware North will donate $100,000 to community partners, including Feedmore WNY.
“The 2022 Christmas storm was the most severe storm we have experienced here in Erie County,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said in a statement Thursday.
“The number of people who feared losing their lives, losing loved ones, not having access to medicine, freezing to death. And the Buffalo Bill stepped up, basically starving at this point? , potentially homeless, once again shows how great a community partner the Buffalo Bills organization is.”
Buffalo Sabers Foundation President Rich Julerer said, “As we continue to deal with the effects of this tragic storm, we are extremely excited to be able to provide support to these outstanding organizations that provide critical services and resources to our communities. We are proud to do our part to help West New Yorkers, many of whom rely on these organizations for assistance, recover from this storm.We are the first responders. We appreciate their efforts and our hearts go out to those we have lost.
