The 49ers’ famous rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys goes back decades. Brock Purdy helped write the latest chapter with his 19-12 win in the NFC Divisional Playoffs on Sunday.
After a tense game, the rookie quarterback looked around Levi’s Stadium and reflected on his place in San Francisco lore.
“Right now, in a way, I’m still just focused on the game and what I can do to make it better, but yes, it’s pretty cool to see the clock zero and the Niners over the Cowboys.” Purdy told reporters after the win. “That’s pretty awesome in the playoffs, so I’m definitely grateful to the coaching staff for getting us right all week. Defense, offense, special teams, everyone is just playing. We need everyone, not just one or a few.
“We literally need everyone. That’s why I’m so proud of the team and playoff football isn’t easy. To have a win like that against a great team like Dallas and now the NFC Championship. “Going to is what it means. We had a lot going on. And for myself, yeah, when I take a step back, it’s pretty cool. I’m so grateful.”
This year marked the second straight season the 49ers and Cowboys faced each other in the playoffs, and the second straight season San Francisco dashed Dallas’ hopes of a Super Bowl appearance.
The two Dynasty franchises have met a total of nine times in the postseason, with the 49ers winning four and the Cowboys winning five. However, San Francisco has claimed his last three playoff games against Dallas.
