west park, florida – Two South Florida businesses were recently targeted by scammers, but cash wasn’t what the criminals were after.
Surveillance cameras over the weekend show the two using a jack to lift the truck when one of the men begins to cut out the catalytic converter.
The act was then repeated several more times.
Greg Jackson owns a neighborhood business, Tycoon Party Rentals. He was also attacked and thieves stole vital car parts from all of his vehicles.
“I keep getting hit. Every time I change, I keep getting hit,” Jackson said. “Hopefully we can find the right people and get the company back on track.Converters from there.
The getaway car used by the thieves is found in the same footage, but remains damaged.
Auto parts that control vehicle emissions are composed of precious metals such as platinum and rhodium and sell for hundreds of dollars at scrap yards.
Sometimes it exceeds the price of gold.
Replacing a critical auto part can run into the thousands of dollars for some vehicles and can be a huge blow to small business owners.
“This is expensive. These converters aren’t cheap, so you can only fix one van or one truck at a time,” says Jackson.
