Injured Kane isn’t thinking of shutting himself down after first appearance on NBC Sports Chicago for now
Patrick Kane missed the final two games with a lower body injury after hitting late in the third period in a 5–2 New Year’s Day loss from San Jose Sharks forward Yevgeny Svechnikov. He was seen grimacing on the bench despite playing his last shift.
In the next game against Tampa Bay, Kane left at the end of the second period after aggravating his injury. He and the Blackhawks wanted to be careful with it, so the smart move was to keep him going into the third period.
After Tuesday’s practice, Kane gave an interview with NBC Sports Chicago to discuss the current situation.
“Good,” Kane said. “I don’t think I should have played the game against Tampa. I probably shouldn’t have because I wasn’t feeling well and I was on the ice thinking about injuries instead of just playing games.” He took it off.
“I think I could probably play the last two games. I hope you come.”
Kane has been rumored to have been dealing with nagging injuries for some time, and it was documented in the past, though no details were given.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently reported on Canada’s Hockey Night and 32 Thoughts Podcast that Kane will likely need a “cleanup” at some point. He also vented whether it makes more sense for Kane to shut himself down and get healthy for next season if it continues to affect him.
Kane didn’t rule out the possibility, but admitted that he wasn’t thinking about it at this point.
“I don’t think so, no, I don’t think it has that effect right now,” Kane said. “I mean, I guess you never know what’s going to happen, but it’s definitely not where we are right now.”
Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson said Kane’s status against Colorado on Thursday is questionable. not.
Kane hopes to practice Wednesday, but that’s not guaranteed.
“Let’s see how tomorrow goes,” Kane said. “I thought I would be able to skate today and practice with the team, but hopefully it will be tomorrow and now I can keep doing it every day.”
A full sit-down interview with Kane will appear on Thursday’s Blackhawks Talk podcast.
