Hundreds of black business owners are expected to show up at the Capitol on Friday to lobby lawmakers for more resources and infrastructure.
The Black Entrepreneurship Day event, which kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in the Rotunda, will give legislators the opportunity to hear first-hand from black business owners, said event organizer Sheretta Brandidge.
“We have unique challenges and they need to hear about it so they can find ways to help us,” said Blandigi. “This is not a photo shoot…we will be lobbyists for a day.”
Friday’s speaker, Dana Smith, co-owner of the now-closed MinnyRow Market in Hopkins, said Minnesota legislators will provide more subsidies to small, black-owned businesses and help business owners He said he hopes to make continued efforts to inform the company of resources and resources. MinnyRow opened in November 2020 and closed two years later, Smith said, citing the pandemic, lack of resources and lack of infrastructure to help black-owned businesses thrive. I was.

Gov. Tim Walz, Senate Majority Leader Kari Čezic and State Comptroller Julie Blaha are among the politicians expected to attend the event, Blandigi said.
Small business owners who register for the event will be given three rounds of $1,000 grants, Blandigi said, because many business owners have had to close their stores to attend.
“If we can do this over time, I’m sure MPs with a $17 billion surplus can do it,” Blandige said.
