When it was first announced that Greta Gerwig would be stepping forward with a feature film based on the beloved (and sometimes very outdated) Barbie doll, what exactly did many fans expect, and how could she expect these? But after the first teaser was released, it became clear that it was no ordinary Barbie movie veiled. 2001: A Space Odyssey See also – there is also a dance sequence. And in addition to those dance sequences, the film involves different types of people beyond the famous puppets. The cast also includes America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Kingsley Ben Adeel, Nkuti Gatwa, Hari Neff, and more, all of which promise that this film will be a crazy multiverse for ordinary people outside of Marvel. But there are also Marvel stars in the mix. Simu Liu recently opened up about the casting process. Because Gerwig, with his unrealistic body standards, tried to find all the different types of actors, not just 11.5-inch plastic dolls. “I remember vividly some of our big, complicated dance sequences. Greta was very conscientious about who to cast. We were able to cast people of varying sizes, abilities, all under the following message: “That means it’s going to be Barbie or Ken,” said the Marvel actor Vanity Fair. “It’s about finding your inner beauty, owning that part of yourself, and being the best version of yourself possible.”
Liu then praised the set’s versatility. This will hopefully become apparent on the big screen. “Going on set, I never felt isolated. I feel like I’m going to work every day with a cast that truly celebrates each other and their differences, regardless of where we’re from.” He portrays Ken (or at least his iteration) in the film, alongside Ryan Gosling. I think you can see it reflected,” he added.
When it comes to these complex dance scenes, Liu has more or less prepared his entire life for this moment. “In one of her first conversations with Greta, I said to her, ‘I hate to brag, but I was on the hip-hop dance team in college. ’ and she literally cried. So I feel like that played a very important role in getting this project,” added Liu. Done!
