Atlanta promoter, entrepreneur charged with nearly $1 million PPP loan fraud

An Atlanta promoter and entrepreneur has been charged with receiving fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program loans worth nearly $1 million for his business.

In June 2020, 41-year-old Travis Harris signed a PPP loan application for his business, Atlanta Luxury Cars & Trucks LLC, worth $968,405. Officials said Harris’ application was based on fraudulent information about his business’ employee numbers, salaries, and earnings.

Harris then deposited $968,405 into one of Atlanta Luxury Cars & Trucks LLC’s bank accounts, according to people familiar with the matter.

“Congress has established the Paycheck Protection Program to help small businesses. It’s not easy money for those willing to lie on loan applications,” said federal attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. . “We will continue to investigate and prosecute those who defrauded taxpayers out of funds to sustain the economy during the COVID-19 crisis.

On May 17, 2021, the Attorney General established the COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force to work with agencies across the government to organize DOJ resources to combat and prevent pandemic-related fraud.
