Ashland, Virginia (WRIC) — Police in Ashland continue to investigate a train that struck a car this weekend after the vehicle was abandoned on the tracks.
The accident occurred around 3:30 am on Sunday at the intersection of England Street and Railroad Avenue, and police are still looking for the driver.
In the Virtual Railfan video, a car descends onto the tracks and crosses the armpit. The driver gets off and walks away — seconds later the train crashes into the car.
Russell Youens works at Tiny Tim’s Train and Toys and lives nearby. He saw the crash happen.
“I happened to be up in the middle of the night looking at the cameras and footage and seeing the accident happening live,” Youens said. I was a little shocked.”
Youens told 8News that he sees crashes frequently in the area.
“Probably once a month there is an accident of some kind here, involving a car and luckily there were no pedestrians, but we saw a close call,” Youens explains. Did.
On Monday, the crew was making sure the arm was in place as the train passed.
