ARLINGTON, Virginia — Residents of Arlington will soon have to say goodbye to their small business staple in the Clarendon area. The news came as the bike shop owner cited financial problems.
The Old Bike Shop on North Pershing Drive has been providing repair services to keep people safe for the past decade. We also restore used bicycles and sell new bicycles.
On their website, the business said their goal is to cater to people from all walks of life and provide personalized experiences that inspire a passion for horseback riding.
That heartwarming goal will soon come to an end with the closure of a store said to be the cornerstone of small businesses in the area.
“Yes, unfortunately this is true,” Old Bike Shop owner Lawrence Beheery said in a statement to WUSA9 regarding the rumors of the closure. “Business has dropped significantly to pre-COVID levels last year, but costs and commodity prices have never been higher, upsetting the delicate balance that made this business viable.”
In addition to business issues, Behery also has personal concerns that make it difficult to keep the shop running.
“I am also caring for my elderly mother, but cancer alone makes things more complicated. I am grateful.”
It is scheduled to close at the end of February, but the specific date is undecided.
