APPLETON, Wisconsin — The Wisconsin police department has a new chief who is making history.
The new Chief of the Appleton Police Department, Polly Olson, is the first female Chief of Police in the department’s history.
But she’s no stranger to the Appleton community. She grew up in the area and raises her children there.
“I love this community so much, I can’t imagine living anywhere else, and I look forward to continuing to provide that level of safety and security for everyone,” Olson said.
Chief Olson has been with Appleton for 22 years. She is now the head of her first department.
“Serving my community was a passion I had,” Olson said.
She rose through the years and found herself in charge of the safety and welfare of dozens of police officers and the Appleton community.
“I am so grateful to be in this position. has been able to build those relationships over the past 22 years,” Olson said.
There are only a handful of women in the department, but for Lieutenant Megan Cash, having a female chief at the top is exciting.
“I’m not just a human being, and seeing that our boss, the leader of this agency, is a woman, all I can say is that not only does it make me happy, but to my daughter who just started kindergarten, you Let me tell you that anything is possible,” Cash said.
Olson said young people can achieve their dreams if they work hard and dedicate themselves to it.
“Don’t sell your goals low. Set your goals high,” says Olson.
