ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Veteran outfielder Brett Phillips has agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
The club announced a deal with Phillips on Monday. Phillips will likely compete with Joe Adele and Mickey Moniak for the job as Halos’ fourth outfielder.
Phillips joins the fifth big league team after stints in Milwaukee, Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Baltimore. 188 hitter who contributes heavily in defense and speed.
Phillips appeared in 83 games last season between the Rays and Orioles, batting . 144 with 5 homers and 15 RBIs.
The Angels’ starting outfielders are Mike Trout, Taylor Ward and rookie Hunter Renfroe. Both Adele and Moniak have a much higher offensive advantage than Phillips, but they also have an optional year available to secure a steady at-bat in 2023.
Phillips is the Angels’ latest offseason addition of proven big-league talent alongside Renfro, Gio Urshera, Brandon Drury, pitchers Tyler Anderson and Carlos Estevez.
Los Angeles has suffered the longest losing streak in the majors (7) and a non-playoff season (8).
