Charleston, South Carolina (WCSC) – As 2022 draws to a close, the Charleston area’s favorite pizza restaurant is closing after 30 years in business.
A sign on the door of the last remaining Andolini’s Pizza on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in West Ashley reads, “With sad hearts, the last Andolini’s Pizza has closed,” thanking the community for their support over the years. I’m here.
The official announcement was made on the restaurant’s Facebook page on Saturday afternoon, almost a month after posting to celebrate the restaurant’s 30th anniversary.
“To all our loyal patrons and staff who have been a part of our journey…a huge thank you! We will miss you,” the post said.
One patron responded to the post, saying he had been a “fan (and frequent customer)” since his days as a student at the University of Charleston and enjoyed introducing his kids to “the best pizza on the planet.” rice field.
Another user posted a series of crying emojis with the message, “I had the best pizza in Charleston!”
Many of the responses included an emoji expressing sadness over the news.
Some former employees thanked their families for starting the business.
At its peak, there were five major locations throughout the Lowcountry: Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, James Island, North Charleston, and West Ashley.
Its menu included Italian and Greek salads, breadsticks, calzones, and slice or pie pizza.
According to the company’s Facebook page, Andolini’s has been voted “Best New York Style Pizza” for 28 years.
Andolini’s is the latest addition to the long-running list of Lowcountry restaurants closing in 2022. Other familiar eateries saying goodbye this year include The Sunflower Cafe in West Ashley, Nana’s Seafood, Philly’s in Summerville and Caroline’s Aloha Bar. West Ashley Ladle Soup.
