Milwaukee — A mandarin duck was spotted in Milwaukee.
Mandarin ducks are native to East Asia and are common in South Korea, eastern Russia, China, Taiwan, and Japan. They live in forests near wetlands such as rivers, streams, marshes, marshes, swamps, and freshwater lakes. Mandarin ducks typically live to be 6-7 years old.
A fully grown mandarin duck can grow up to 8.3 to 9.7 inches. Males weigh up to 1.4 pounds and females up to 2.4 pounds.
The Milwaukee Mandarin Duck was recently spotted near the South Shore Yacht Club. In mid-November 2022, mandarin ducks were seen in the Fond du Lac area of Lake Winnebago. The ducks were seen again around Christmas. But according to Ryan Brady, a conservation biologist at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, there’s no way to know for sure if these sightings were all from the same duck.
According to Brady, the mandarin duck was most likely in captivity and either belonged to a zoo or was privately owned.
Brady said there’s no way to know how long visiting ducks have been hanging out around the yacht club.
Ducks may move when the temperature drops, the water freezes, or they need food. However, Brady pointed out that the DNR doesn’t want people feeding the ducks. Otherwise, nearby fellow ducks may waddle if they decide to move to a new location.
