New York – All major hip-hop resources are celebrating their 25th anniversary milestone.
While their videos and interviews have become staples of the community, the two men who created AllHipHop.com told CBS2’s John Diaz that it was the music they conveyed that propelled the media company to hip-hop fame. It says news and feature stories.
The founders also say it keeps them going.
AllHipHop.com co-founder Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur said: “We’ve been through a lot, we’ve seen the internet, hip-hop and technology evolve.”
Kriekma and Greg Watkins started the website almost 25 years ago, shortly after the Internet was launched to the public. So this website is about half the history of hip hop.
But Creekmur said the company’s commitment to fair and impartial storytelling remains unchanged. Gaining over 3 million unique his users every month.
“I think our aim is to document hip-hop culture,” said Kriekmaar. “We are still in the realm of wanting to create content, wanting to set trends.”
AllHipHop.com co-founder Greg “Grouchy” Watkins said: “We are trying to be the voice of hip-hop culture.”
They interview every hip-hop celebrity and help new artists and careers launch, while ensuring that past stories and hip-hop history never fade.
Watkins said, “Not only do we need to focus on the emergence of new hip-hop artists, but we also need to make sure the voices of the pioneers are heard.
