The Algarve is in dire need of affordable housing to attract and retain the region’s talented and talented young people.
Algarve-based business group ANJE (National Association of Young Entrepreneurs) said Monday in a meeting with Portugal’s secretary of state for youth and sports João Paulo Correia.
The conference was organized to discuss “the main challenges and difficulties facing the region,” ANJE said in a statement to the press.
“The bureaucracy associated with some procedures that delay investment. The lack of qualified human resources in various fields and the need for more affordable housing to enable young people to stay in the Algarve. was the main issue discussed, the association added.
“This is yet another very important step in consolidating and strengthening our partnerships, with the aim of achieving our overall goals and promoting training and technology development for the Algarve business ecosystem.”
“We want to foster support for new ideas and foster an entrepreneurial spirit that encourages the creation of new companies,” he added.
Also present at the meeting were Custodio Moreno, Director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, Luis Carracinha, Founder and President of Epopeia Records, a local entrepreneur, and Rita Andrade, Project Manager of Rock Building.
Caracinha and Andrade voiced the main concerns of the majority of Algarve business people. The area needs to be able to “attract and retain talent”.
ANJE added that “strengthening new companies in the Algarve” is one of its main goals, with the idea of continuing to improve the conditions for generating new business.
According to the association, business people should have a wealth of support at their disposal from affordable business incubators, access to “mentors and investors,” and links to several key entities.
“The larger goal is to continuously improve the conditions for learning and entrepreneurship,” it said.
The association added that it also partnered with the University of the Algarve about a year ago to pursue this goal.
