Jones will reunite with former Sports Hub co-host Christian Arcand and join Megan Ottorini on WEEI’s afternoon show called “Jones and Mego.”
Adam Jones’ move from 98.5 The Sports Hub to WEEI has been the worst kept secret on Boston sports radio for the past few weeks. WEEI made the official announcement on Friday morning.
The station has announced that it is hiring Jones, who has been the night’s host at Sports Hub for 10 years, as host for its afternoon drive. Join Cristian Arcand, former co-host of Sports Hub. The show is called “Jones and Mego” with Christian Arcand.
“Joining the WEEI team is a lifelong dream come true,” Jones said in a statement. “For 10 years, I’ve been driving into the night like an afternoon drive. I can’t wait to start working with Meghan and Christian.”
WEEI also announced the promotion of Ken Laird from Station Operations Manager to Brand Manager.
Jones’ additions to WEEI’s recent lineup include parting ways with longtime afternoon host Lou Merloni, Christian Faurier’s move from Afternoon Drive to Noon, and Rich Keef’s Noon to Night move. This is the final piece of change.
“This is the third time Adam and I have worked together,” said Mike Thomas, senior vice president and market manager for Ordersy Boston. “He’s talented, opinionated, informed, and funny.”
When Jones was promoted to host of the evening show in December 2012, Thomas replaced Damon Amendrala, who was the program director for Sports Hub and moved to CBS Sports Radio gigs nationwide.
Jones and the revamped afternoon program will face off against Sports Hub’s ratings-dominant show “Felger and Maz,” featuring Michael Felger, Tony Massarotti and third voice Jim Murray.
Jones first broke into Boston Radio in 2006 as an intern and update anchor for Felger’s ESPN 890 show. He has also worked with ESPN Boston Radio and ESPN Radio (2011-12), and his past duties at Sports Hub included co-hosting the 2009-10 “The Dunshawnnessy Show.” rice field.
Meanwhile, Laird’s new role will include overseeing the station’s content strategy, people, operations and branding.
“Ken stepped up last year and has proven himself as a leader, and we are very happy to promote him in this new role,” Thomas said.
