Milwaukee — In honor of Black History Month, Milwaukee business leaders were honored for their dedication and leadership to their communities.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson presented four awards at Bader Philanthropies in the city’s Five Points Neighborhood.

Here are the winners of the People Who Made Modern Black History award:
- Minority Business Champions by Clifton, Jalin and James Phelps of JCP Construction
- Dr. Robert Davis, President and CEO of America’s Black Holocaust Museum, was presented with the Tenacious Business Leader.
- Alicia Smith-McCants, Vice President of Development and Analytics, Advocate Aurora Health Foundations, SD Foundation Board Chair of Charitable Giving
- Otis Winstead, President and CEO of Great Lakes Dryhootch, was named an Outstanding Citizen.
Davis of America’s Black Holocaust Museum said Black History Month is integral to telling the stories of African Americans and other minorities.

But these stories cannot be limited to just one month of the year, he said.
“People’s histories, cultures, and contributions cannot be squeezed into a month. It’s impossible,” says Davis. “This should be an ongoing celebration and recognition of all the work we do as Americans, because that is what we are all about. is about.”
Davis said these awards are greater than what the winners have achieved professionally.
“This is a celebration of not only what we have achieved at work, but how we have improved the quality of life across Milwaukee, both individually and collectively,” Davis said.
