WEST ALICE, Wisconsin — Newly engaged Ellen Abolt got some ideas for her big day at the Wonderful World of Weddings Expo on Sunday.
“I grab a business card and start putting together a ghost budget as if I could actually get what I want,” said Abolt.
Events like this show her how expensive wedding planning can be.
“There are things on my napkin that I don’t want to use anymore because they’re ridiculous,” says Abolt.
Abolt and her fiancé hope to get married in 2025, but she’s enjoying the planning stages.
“I’m really looking forward to getting into the dress phase,” said Abolt. “It’s fun to see all the different things and options you can do to create an event about you and your fiancée.”
From location, food, drink, and even entertainment, weddings are full of productions.
Chris Moore has some knowledge of the industry. He has been DJing for 35 years.
“When I started in business, we were performing at receptions. We were coming in there and doing the music part of it,” Moore said. “Now disc jockeys are very much welcomed. It’s a ceremony, part of a couple’s day.”
Among the various vendors, Abolt said planning can be fun and stressful, but she makes sure to include her fiancée.
“You two are throwing the biggest party ever,” said Abolt. “It’s you two who are throwing a party for the person closest and most important to you. If it’s flashy and glamorous, that’s fine, but if it’s not, don’t do it.”
The wedding industry is constantly changing, especially due to the pandemic and inflation, but Abolt focuses on what matters most. It’s the love between her and her partner.
