Pennsylvania high schools don’t seem to realize it’s 2016, considering they kicked out a suit-wearing girl from prom.
Anya Wolfe, a girl who identifies as a lesbian, said at the last minute that girls were required to wear formal dress to attend the prom at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, she and her mother said he received an email.
However, by that point, they had already purchased a suit for Anya, so she decided to put it on and attend anyway.
As a result, she was forced to leave.
The school reportedly notified parents about the dress code three months in advance and said in a statement released Saturday:
Bishop McDevitt continues to practice acceptance and love for all students. They are tremendous young men and women. We ask that you follow the rules we have introduced.
Anyway, this is utterly ridiculous and inherently intolerant.
If the school had truly embraced it, it could have been able to bend the rules in this case.
It doesn’t matter if girls go in tuxedos or boys wear dresses to prom. Can you let people be people?
