Deommodore Lenoir’s interception in the first quarter of the 49ers’ 19-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys surprised even himself.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Lenore explained what came to mind when he intercepted Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s errant throw.
“I mean, I broke on the route and I really didn’t expect him to throw,” Lenore told reporters.h/t 95.7 games.) “I thought it was about time [a] scramble drill.
“But when I turned around, the ball was coming. It was like a hyena sense kicked in and I jumped up.”
The play in question occurred with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter. After Dallas snapped the ball to Prescott, the 29-year-old decided to scan the field before throwing it wide to his receiver Michael his Gallup.
But Prescott threw it disastrously behind Gallup, and Lenore was able to easily steal the ball and give it back to San Francisco.
Prescott struggled with turnovers in the 2022 NFL season, throwing 15 interceptions in just 12 games. Against the 49ers, Prescott he threw two interceptions.

Now that Dallas’ season is over, Prescott has time to think about ways to improve his pitching mechanics so he doesn’t throw too many interceptions next season.
49ers Faithfull hopes Lenore will continue to surprise himself with more interceptions when the 49ers face the Philadelphia Eagles in next weekend’s NFC Championship Game.
