GREEN BAY, Wisconsin — The Green Bay Packers enter the new year looking to extend their winning streak and increase their playoff chances. Host the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on Sunday at 3:25 PM.
Both teams have a lot to play. On a three-game winning streak, the 7-8 Packers need a win to continue their ferocious push for the wild card slot. The 12-3 Vikings have already won the NFC North Division title, but still have a chance to clinch the NFC’s top seed. That means playoff first round bye-bye.
Here are three things to watch out for on Sunday’s game.
Vikings win in close game
Minnesota has built its season by winning one-score games. He’s 11-0 in those games. If it’s a close match, they find a way to win.
They have such a win against the New York Giants, which Greg Joseph won with the longest 61-yard field goal in Viking history.
Which defense will shine?
Minnesota’s defense under former Packers defensive coordinator Ed Donatel has never been great.
Meanwhile, the Packers’ defense (which has been under attack for most of the season) has contributed to their current winning streak. With that surge, they allowed only 17 points per game and no points in the 4th quarter.
Justin Jefferson hard to stop
Minnesota wide receiver Justin Jefferson said he should join the MVP debate. He has already broken Randy Moss’ franchise record for yards received in a season, having 24 receptions of 100+ yards in his career. He did it in three years. No other NFL receiver in history has even achieved that with 4.
The Packers had no answer for Jefferson in their first meeting. He had nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
The Vikings won their season opener on September 11, 2022, defeating the Packers, 23-7 in Minnesota.
