Yesterday, we announced the 2023 RHSU Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings. Of course, over the years, readers have also expressed interest in how academics have addressed particular areas of research. After all, educational studies involve many people with very different types of jobs. As a result, where a scholar ranks overall may be less obvious than where it ranks within its field. Today we report on the top 10 and top 5 junior faculty in 5 disciplines. (See Wednesday’s post for details on how to score..)
Currently, ambiguity can arise when determining a particular scholar’s area of expertise. My astute research assistants, Alicia Nottrott and Caitlyn Aversman, base their résumés primarily on academic degrees earned. In the few cases where it didn’t work, I’ve made judgments. We will do our best to make the appropriate adjustments next year.
You can scroll through each chart below.
The table pretty much speaks for itself. Top finisher for Curriculum, Instruction, and Administration was Jo Boaler. Economics, Emily Oster. On Government and Policy, Paul Peterson.Angela Duckworth in Psychology (Full Disclosure: Angela Duckworth’s Blog education week); and in sociology, Pedro Noguera (full disclosure: Noguera and I co-authored search for common ground Finished ‘Common Ground’ Podcast in 2021 this fall).
Beyond the discipline breakdown, we also want to give a special nod to the junior faculty who made the list.nd Overall. Other junior faculty who produced the Edu-Scholar 200 are Jarvis Givens (age 172) of Harvard University, Jonathan Wye (age 181) of the University of Arkansas, Jonathan Collins (age 194) of Brown University, and Denisa Gandala (age 194) of UT Austin University. 195) and Bianca Baldridge (195) of Harvard University. 198. These six are particularly noteworthy given that this exercise is designed to favor scholars who have built a body of research that has had a lasting impact.
That concludes the 2023 Edu-Scholar Rankings. We will do this again next year at the same time and same place. We will be back to our regular program next week.
