There are implications for readers, timing, specificity or novelty, and for publications like ours, proximity and relevance to our hometowns. How do you get the right mix of things that go into history and don’t go into that story?

In this business, we call that skill “news judgment.” It’s a term that encompasses the subjectivity of a case, and I think it emphasizes the extent to which these verdicts can be shaped by perspective.
