In our latest 20-question series, you’ll go one-on-one with Blackhawks’ Sam Lafferty.
1. What was your favorite NHL team growing up and why?
The Pittsburgh Penguins because I’m from the area and they were successful when I started playing hockey. I have always been a big penguin fan. What was it like to be drafted by them? It was crazy. It was surreal. One of the craziest days of my life. It was very special to play there and start in the NHL.
2. What was your favorite NHL player growing up and why?
Sydney Crosby. It’s easy. He saved hockey considerably in the area. When I was a kid, I would see him doing something in the game, and the next day at Stick Time, all the kids would try the same move or something.
3. What was your favorite NHL moment?
that’s a good question. Training She remembers sitting next to her childhood idol, Sid, at camp, thinking of something to say and drawing blanks. She couldn’t think of a good word, so she asked him what his score was, and she said, “I think it’s a tie.” *smile*
4. What is your favorite road city in the NHL and why?
i love san jose that’s a good one. We usually seem to stay there for a few days, and I like playing golf in beautiful places in the world.
5. What is your favorite road arena in the NHL and why?
i like boston that’s really cool. Stepping into Boston feels like you’re at war. Fans are very enthusiastic. It always seems like a playoff game when you’re there.
6. Who is your favorite teammate of all time and why?
During my rookie years at Wilkes-Barre, I was lucky enough to play with Jimmy Hayes. Rest in peace. Greatest man ever, funniest man, you show up to the rink every day excited to see what Hazy will do today.
7. Why are you wearing number 24?
When I came to Chicago, I think I had three numbers to choose from, and it was a no-brainer. I actually wore a 24 during my freshman year of college. I love it.
8. What is your favorite activity to cool off from hockey?
If the weather is nice, I would like to play golf if I have the opportunity. It’s my all-time favorite. If not, I’ve been playing with puppies lately.
9. What is the flex number of the stick?
95. I think it’s a good middle ground. Not too soft, not too hard.
10. What do you have to do on game day?
Can I say nap? Just say nap.
11. Best Hockey Prank You Witnessed
Growing up, I’ve seen clear tape, excuse me, waxing skate blades while out and about, and watching my buddies quickly face onto the ice.
12. The most defensive player of all time and why
Connor McDavid. Especially this year. I’ve obviously played him and I know how good he is, but this year when I played him in October I just said: “
13. Current or previous players you want to be linemates
I think it’s the Detroit Russians from the Russian Five who used to hang out with Sergei Fedorov and Igor Larionov. That would be pretty cool, maybe we can come up with some pretty cool plays. *smile*
14. Build a 3-on-3 Overtime Lineup
I would go to Conor McDavid, Sergey Fedorov and have Patrick Kane in there and spice it up.
15. Favorite movie and why
Can I have a couple? Happy Gilmour and Major League Baseball.
16. Favorite summer vacation spot, where is the golf course? *smile*

17. What is your favorite sport other than hockey?
golf. *smile*
18. What is your golf handicap? I heard you are really good at it.
Please don’t report it, I’m not trying to give too many shots. *smile* The NHLPA Players Poll named you the top 5 golfers in the league. We have good players in the league. I wish we could have a tournament and each team would send a few players. I think it would be fun to do it in the summer.
Oh, and as a follow-up, which 3 teammates do you need for a quartet?
I’m going with Jonathan Towes. he’s pretty goodI’m going with Patrick Kane…hmm…there aren’t many good players on this team *smile*. Maybe Taylor Radish or Jack Johnson, just for the story. … Oh, Jake McCabe! Add him to the foursome and take Jack out. I might even drop the taser and put in Andreas Attanasio.
19. Who is your favorite athlete outside of hockey?
Michael Jordan.
20. What would you like to be if you weren’t a hockey player?
I wouldn’t call myself a golfer, but I probably would. *smile*
