There are two kinds of people in this world. Some people use coasters and some don’t. In my experience, people who don’t use coasters usually put a sweaty bottle of Budweiser on top of my book.
So I took a vintage book off the coffee table and dealt with the situation by not offering a cold bottle of Budweiser or Sam Adams and not inviting them.
I don’t want to simplify life, but I do because life is much simpler than we make it. A giver gives until there is nothing left to give, and a taker takes until there is nothing left to receive. choose. Do you want to be approached as a giver or a taker? If you are a taker, I am sure what your answer is.
And there are optimists and pessimists. I love dogs and I love cats. There are Republicans and Democrats. There are slobs and neatniks. (I lean towards the sloppy side.) There are spendthrifts and savers. (Me‘I am definitely a spendthrift. ) and then there are those who reach for their checks when the waitress comes, those who head to the restroom. which one are you?
In my life, I’ve observed two types of motorists. Some people try to hit the accelerator and stay in front when they are in the acceleration lane trying to get on the highway. And may God bless their souls, they are slowly accepting you.
You will also encounter two types of drivers at intersections. Some people step on the accelerator at a yellow light, and it is not uncommon for people to step on the brake. With more people like them, there would be fewer accidents, hit-and-runs, and pedestrian fatalities.
Others use up the hot water in the shower, and leave it generously for the next person.
Some trust politics, others trust prayer. You decide which one is the greater power for the good of the world.
When it comes to crisis, there are two kinds of people. There are those who look at a bad situation and try to find the good, and those who look at a bad situation and see only the bad. Actually, there is a third kind. Someone who sees a bad situation and tries to find a way to take advantage of it. They are usually politicians.
There are two types of people who react differently to insults. Some people are light-skinned and get upset about anything, and some are light-skinned and don’t care. They are often the ones who insult light-skinned people because they can’t figure out what the problem is whenever they make an offensive joke. I often find work as a political commentator.
And some people do not politely express their opinions because they want to get along well with others, while others are silent and unable to express their opinions, telling the world that they are right and others are wrong. Some people have to let us know. Sound familiar? They usually want to beat you with their views until you take the only possible recourse, rush to the nearest emergency exit, push the door open, and scream into the street.
Everyone has an opinion, but few people in America are willing to reconsider theirs. They want to send everyone else to rehab or prison.
With the new year approaching, it’s a great time to work on personal changes, so make a list of resolutions. Some people want to make themselves better. Others, however, believe that they are already the best version of themselves and do not need to change.
Becoming a better person is not a richer, more popular, or more powerful person, but a fundamental need in life. Never stop. With a little effort, a little prayer, a little desire, and a little persistence, we can all change.
We can be givers, not receivers. We can be open-minded rather than narrow-minded “know it all”. Pick up the check and you’ll feel better. And most importantly, you can reach out and place your drink on the coaster.
