10-year-old boy shoots dead Milwaukee woman near 87th Street and Hemlock

milwaukee – A Milwaukee woman was shot dead Monday, November 21, by a 10-year-old boy who was playing with a gun near 87th and Hemlock.

Police said the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. and the victim, a 44-year-old woman, died from her injuries.

The neighbor’s heart was broken by this horrific accident and he woke up to the police outside his house.

“It broke my heart,” said the neighbor. “I almost cried when I heard this morning.”

“I got up to take my son to the bus stop. When I got out, the police taped me down,” said Jasmine Agerson.

Neighbors said the boy and his mother were the only people living in the house.

“She’s a very sweet woman,” said Agerson. “Her son is so kind and respectable that it just broke my heart to hear that.”

It’s accidents like this that Travis Landry of WestCare Wisconsin is working to prevent.

“You try to stop it, but I don’t know if you can stop it,” Landry said.

The organization gave away thousands of free gun locks last year alone.

“I have to have tough conversations with my family about why we have guns in the house, gun safety, what the guns are for,” Landry said.

Neighbors said they wanted people to heed that advice to prevent more lives from being lost.

“It breaks my heart to hear what happened near my home,” Agerson said.

Milwaukee police said no one had been arrested. The district attorney’s office is investigating the incident.

WestCare Wisconsin is now installing free gun locks on its vending machines to make them accessible to more people in the city.
